What better time than winter for a casual trip to deep Northern California to do some river rafting?
In February 2005 on the Trinity River in the “alps” of deep, deep Norther California, I was “exposed” to humanity like never before, as well as one very cold, yet forgiving (with enough lubricant), river.
When one thinks of “the alps” in February it generally would involve “shooshing” and “apres skiing” – perhaps even fondue. The alps of Northern California have no snow, so the “shooshing” and “apres skiing” have to be done on muddy logging roads with cold (or warm) cans of Natural Ice Beer. I found Natural Ice was the preferred brew of deep Northern California (DN for future reference), and extra-specially (expecially) the ambassador of Hayfork and all of Trinity County, Jake. He even had it tattooed on his person to prove allegiance to the ice cold king of iced beer.
